What Are People Saying About Beyond the Myth?

BOSTON, MA

Kara Holmquist
Director of Advocacy, Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

“Beyond the Myth is the first hard-hitting, emotionally charged documentary to expose the truth about Pit Bull-type dogs: dogs as maligned as they are misunderstood. The film challenges the public’s perception of these dogs—as well as other breeds burdened with false reputations for aggression—by revealing the continuous bias imposed by the media and, by extension, many lawmakers. This film shows these dogs for what they are: loving, loyal and playful companions that deserve fairness, respect and protection. It is a film that anyone who lives with a dog should consider seeing.” .

“Seeing the film last night really opened my eyes on how big of a problem “Breed Banning” is… What strikes me as very cruel is taking a dog (Family Member) from a home, throwing him/her in a kennel without any kind of positive enrichment to keep that dog mentally and physically healthy until the city decides to put that dog to sleep for no reason. It was a very educational film, and I am glad I was able to support it…”

“I left the theater so inspired! I have two fur kids of the husky mix variety that I got at the Lex. Humane Society and I’ve been wanting to adopt a pit bull for some time now to help break down the negative stereotypes. Your film really spoke to me and I know I will have my own pit bull very soon. Thank you again!”

“I was at the Tampa showing last night. It was a powerful and informative film. Thank you for doing such a film and educating the public. I was thankful my son, who is 15, attended the showing. It opened up a dialogue between us about all the things we learned and how important the cause is.”

Anna

“I wanted to take a moment to tell you just how inspiring your film was for me. I have been training dogs since 1992 and always been active in dog rescue. About six years ago, I became a Police Officer. I quickly gained the reputation as the dog cop. Perhaps it was because I couldn’t pass by a homeless dog in the projects (and the majority of them are pit bulls) or perhaps it was because I was arresting several people a week for animal cruelty. About a year ago, I was promoted to Detective and haven’t had as much exposure on the street in the hood with the dogs that need people like us. I am a writer myself and don’t believe I have been inspired in quite some time; so thank you. Not only for fighting the fight, but for the inspiration and clarity I’ve recently been searching for… Great job!”

Sissy

“Thanks to Beyond the Myth my husband now understands that we should ban the BSL and also knows about the adorable character of the Pit Bulls. I honestly thank Libby for making this incredible film.”

“I saw Beyond The Myth this week in Red Bank and really loved it. Honestly, I was expecting an interesting, but most likely emotional and poorly done film. I was very happy to find it was the complete opposite—well thought, well produced and extremely informative. I think it’s actually a very important movie, and I immediately started thinking about how more people need to see it.”

“I cannot thank you enough for opening my eyes to what is going on out there. I have been an owner/ lover of the breed for about 15 years now and had NO clue that all this was going on. It was only recently that I even Googled BSL since I was hearing all the buzz about your film. I thank you and I know the pups thank you! JOB WELL DONE!!!! I am going to strongly encourage as many people as I can to attend the next showing, Pit lover or not, this horrible nightmare can happen to any breed, so all dog lover’s should watch it.”

“I just wanted to take the time to thank you for all the energy and effort you have exhausted to make this eye-opening film! I have to admit I was not really a “believer” when people discussed the atrocities of breed specific legislation. Quite frankly, I thought that some of the things I had heard were gross exaggerations from histrionic pet owners.”

“Needless to say, I was ASTOUNDED at the incidences that you addressed in Beyond the Myth. It is indisputably ABHORRENT to me that, as a result of nothing more than media hype, from unbelievably ignorant fear mongering that legislation could be passed that would allow the authorities to come to OUR home, take OUR dog (A MEMBER OF OUR FAMILY) and put him to death based solely upon his appearance.”
